Insights from a Moving Industry Expert – James Sanders

Moving to a new home is a significant event that requires careful planning and execution. One of the critical decisions you’ll face during this process is whether to tackle the move yourself or hire professional movers. With over 35 years of experience in the moving industry, I’ve witnessed countless relocations and can provide valuable insights into the pros and cons of both DIY (Do It Yourself) and professional residential removals in the UK. Whether you’re moving to the serene town of Cannock, the historic city of Lichfield, the peaceful town of Stafford, or the bustling city of Birmingham, it’s essential to make an informed decision that suits your specific needs. In this article, I’ll explore the advantages and disadvantages of both approaches to help you decide which one is right for you.

    DIY Residential Removals

    Budget Control

One of the primary reasons people opt for a DIY move is cost savings. You have control over expenses, and you won’t incur professional movers’ fees.

    Hands-On Experience

DIY moves allow you to be directly involved in every aspect of the move, providing a sense of accomplishment and ownership.

    Scheduling

You have the flexibility to schedule the move at your convenience, which can be especially beneficial if you have a flexible timetable.

    Disadvantages of DIY Residential Removals

    Heavy Lifting

DIY moves involve significant physical effort, including heavy lifting and maneuvering of large items, which can be strenuous and pose injury risks.

    Packing and Handling

Without professional expertise, you may not pack and handle items correctly, increasing the risk of damage.

    Time-Intensive

DIY moves often take more time and effort than professional ones, especially if you lack experience or assistance.

    Equipment

You may not have access to specialized moving equipment, such as dollies and ramps, which can make the process more challenging.

    Professional Residential Removals

    Professional Handling

Professional movers have the expertise and experience to handle items safely and efficiently, minimizing the risk of damage.

    Speed

Movers work efficiently, saving you time and ensuring that your move progresses according to schedule.

    Peace of Mind

Knowing that professionals are handling your move can significantly reduce stress and anxiety associated with the process.

    Disadvantages of Professional Residential Removals

    Expense

Hiring professional movers can be more expensive than a DIY move. The cost varies depending on the scope of services and distance.

    Limited Control

While professionals ensure a smooth move, you have less control over the process, which may not suit those who prefer full autonomy.

    Making the Decision

    Physical Condition

Assess your physical condition and ability to handle the physical demands of a DIY move, especially heavy lifting.

    Budget

Consider your budget and whether cost savings are a priority.

    Time

Evaluate your available time and whether you can commit to the time-intensive nature of a DIY move.

    Experience

Be honest about your experience and skills in packing and handling items

    Considerations for Professional Moves

    Budget

Determine whether your budget allows for professional movers and whether the convenience and expertise are worth the cost.

    Time

If time is of the essence, professional movers can expedite the process.

    Complexity

For moves involving valuable, fragile, or specialized items, professional movers provide added peace of mind.

    Distance

Longer-distance moves may benefit more from professional services.

Amazing service!! Without James and his team, my move probably wouldn't have happened. They got me out of a tight spot at really short notice thanks to solicitors not exchanging contracts until 4 days before my move Extremely professional set up from the minute they arrived, throughout the whole day up until they left. They took great care with my furniture and other possessions and so skilled In getting everything into my brand new build property without causing any damage. I would recommend them in a heartbeat to anyone needed a professional, reliable and caring removals firm at a very reasonable price. For anyone moving in and around Staffordshire Moving Circles are the 👌

James & team recently helped us move house - we cannot fault the service and would highly recommend. James was really professional from the outset and also very flexible when our completion date kept moving around (unlike many other removal companies). The team that turned up on the day to support the move was also great - efficient and worked really hard throughout the move day. Moving Circles was also highly competitive in their pricing. Thank you Moving Circles - would definitely work with your team again in future!

We used Moving CIrcles for our recent move and I am so glad that we did . From the very first consultation right through to the actual move, I cannot fault the service that we received. The guys that did the move were very friendly and professional throughout, nothing was damaged and everything was put where we asked. I would highly recommend James and the team who certainly went above and beyond to ensure a smooth move. Thank you so much.

How much do movers cost for a two bedroom apartment uk?

How much does a removal service cost when moving flat? On average, the removal cost for a 2 bedroom flat will usually cost somewhere in the range of £315 and £500, plus VAT.

How much do you tip movers?

A good rule is to give £20-£25 to each person from the moving team for a half-day. If they have been working for the entire day, it might be reasonable to give them £40 to £50 for their efforts. A little extra would be nice if they have been taking heavy items up and down the stairs.

What is the most expensive day to Move?

Tuesday is the most expensive day to move house. If you're choosing your moving date primarily for financial reasons, then Sunday is the best day to move house for you. Book your removal company in advance and compare removal companies to ensure you're getting the best possible deal for your removal costs.
